March 24th marks the World Tuberculosis Day, an important date to alert the population about early diagnosis and proper treatment for the cure of the disease, since tuberculosis still represents a serious global public health problem. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease caused 1.6 million deaths and infected 10.6 million people worldwide in 2021.

More investment in science is needed to develop new diagnostic tests, treatments and vaccines. The WHO proposes a more ambitious action in the fight against tuberculosis. Brazil is among the countries with a high burden of the disease.
