MEDTROP-2021: COVID-19 Forum expects to be the biggest stage for post-pandemic discussions

Despite all the difficulties, we believe that the Congress will be an important place for discussing neglected diseases, as well as COVID-19, bringing the initial results of mass vaccination by different vaccination platforms

The COVID-19 pandemic caused drastic disruptions across the world and a ripple effect and everything had to be postponed. The certainties we had were transformed into uncertainties about the effects and duration of the disease. And so, the 56th edition of the Congress of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine (MEDTROP), like so many other events, were postponed to 2021. Despite all the difficulties, we believe that the Congress will be an important place for discussing neglected diseases, as well as COVID-19, bringing the initial results of mass vaccination by different vaccination platforms. So, I believe in the full success of the event, highlights Dr. Pedro Vasconcelos, president of the SBMT and chair of the congress.

Also according to the president of SBMT, the main objective is to hold a strong scientific event with a well-structured, high-quality scientific grid, which he recognizes has already been achieved. MEDTROP 2021 will be enhanced by satellite meetings and the 56th edition will also feature a great novelty, the COVID-19 Forum, under the coordination of Dr. Julio Croda. Expecting to be the biggest stage for discussions on the post pandemic theme, the Forum will have discussions about the disease and will be an excellent opportunity to present the new results of research, treatment and immunization on COVID-19, share the advances, the discoveries and control actions with vaccination.

Program

15 environments are planned to work simultaneously, with a scientific grid composed of 36 conferences, 36 mini-conferences, 12 lectures, 96 round tables and presentation of more than 2500 scientific papers.

In addition to the COVID-19 Forum, Entomol 8, the Chagas & Leish International Meeting and the VIII National Workshop of REDE-TB (Brazilian Network for Tuberculosis Research) will take place in parallel. In the pre-congress activities, 12 mini-courses and the Neglected Diseases Forum are planned.

The arenas, auditoriums and rooms will take place in environments that will strictly comply with all safety protocols guided by the Ministry of Health, the largest supporter of the Congress, allowing participants to safely enjoy all the services of MEDTROP-2021.

The arenas will be located in the central area of the exhibition of stands and presentation of scientific works, where four simultaneous auditoriums or just a single auditorium will be used to present the main conferences of the scientific grid. Everything prepared with much care and sanitary responsibility.

The intense program will focus on scientific discussions on 20 main thematic axes. In addition to bringing together the greatest specialists in tropical diseases, MEDTROP-2021 will be held in the beautiful and gastronomic city of Belém do Pará, which has significant influence as a regional metropolis, influencing more than eight million people in the states of Pará, Amapá and part of Maranhão, whether from a cultural, economic or political point of view.
