Registrations for the 2016 Medtrop are open

Besides the registration to join the event, the website is also available for scientific papers submission

The website of the Congress of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine (2016 Medtrop), is online. Besides the registrations to join the event, the website is also available for scientific papers submission.

The articles can be submitted until June, 15, and will be examined by the Congress scientific committee. The selected papers will be presented during the MEDTROP, which will take place from August 21 to 24.

2500 participants and over 1000 scientific communications are expected in Medtrop 2016.

Zika

After great national and international repercussion, Zika virus will be in the events spotlight. According to the president of the BSTM, Marcus Lacerda, the health minister Marcelo Castro has committed to help in any necessary means to make this years MEDTROP the largest event on Zika in the Country.

The virus has been dealt as a priority by the World Health Organization (WHO). Infections by Zika have been reported in 22 Brazilian federal units.

The outbreak has also been related to the microcephaly boom in Brazil, where over 6 thousand notifications have been filed from October 22, 2015 and February 27, 2016, according to a report from the Health Ministry. From all notifications, 641 cases have been confirmed and 1,046 were dismissed, besides 4,222 which are still under investigation. From all confirmed cases, 82 tested positive for Zika.

Arrangements

The Maceió edition of the MEDTROP is organized by a local delegation, fully committed to make the event meet the expected success.

We are currently providing additional financial support, explained Doctor Fernando Pedrosa, chair of the 2016 MEDTROP. He added that cooperation from the Alagoas State Government and Maceió Mayors Office are expected to make the Congress possible, already to be one of the years most important events to discuss the current Zika virus outbreak.…
