MEDTROP Play 2021: countdown to one of the biggest medical-scientific events in the country

Medtrop Play 2021 will have 15 rooms working simultaneously, 24 conferences, 48 mini conferences, 72 round tables, in addition to the presentation of free themes and E-posters

The pandemic caused drastic interruptions around the world and made it impossible for the Congress of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine (MEDTROP) to be held in person. But we have adapted and will virtually continue to exchange knowledge on tropical and neglected infectious diseases. In its 56th edition, MedTrop Play 2021, which has as its theme Tropical diseases and neglected populations: the challenge of knowing, monitoring and caring, will include a broad and current scientific program with different approaches from basic studies, clinical trials and studies of cohorts, advances in diagnosis and epidemiological surveillance, treatment and control of infectious and parasitic diseases, with special emphasis on diseases of neglected populations, among others.

As in previous editions, other events will take place simultaneously with MEDTROP Play 2021: National Workshop of the Brazilian Tuberculosis Research Network – REDE-TB, Entomol8, ChagasLeish, National Malaria Research Meeting, 4th Brazilian Social Forum on Combating Infectious Diseases and Negligenciadas and the covid-19 Forum, which will certainly be the protagonist of this edition of the congress. The program also includes 15 rooms operating simultaneously, with a scientific schedule consisting of 24 conferences, 48 mini-conferences, 72 round tables, presentation of free themes and E-posters, in addition to pre-congress activities composed by 16 mini-courses.

This large event traditionally brings together specialists, researchers and professionals from different areas of work related to Tropical Medicine, such as physicians, biologists, biomedical doctors, pharmacists, veterinarians, ecologists, sanitary engineers, sociologists, entomologists, geographers, historians, public health technicians, legislators, nurses, statisticians, etc. Throughout its editions, the congress has also had the participation of a large number of undergraduate and graduate students, linked to various programs in the areas of biological sciences, Tropical Medicine, infectious diseases, public health, who represent the renewal and continuity of this large community that Brazil has built over the six decades of the SBMTs activities, highlights Dr. Pedro Fernando da Costa Vasconcelos, president of the society and also chair to the congress, assuring that the scientific and organizing commissions are preparing the biggest event in the history of the SBMT.

Also according to Dr. Vasconcelos, the multidisciplinarity of the SBMT and the congresses it promotes have enabled an in-depth discussion of various topics related to Tropical Medicine, surveillance and new therapeutic approaches to various tropical and neglected diseases that affect the Brazilian community, such as arboviruses, malaria, leishmaniasis, tuberculosis, among others, which in recent years have had a positive impact on the quality of life and medical care provided to affected populations at risk of acquiring these diseases. “MEDTROP PLAY 2021 will be an excellent opportunity to bring together professionals, undergraduate and graduate students from all over Brazil and other countries in the areas of infectology, epidemiology, pharmacy, biomedicine, biology, clinical laboratories, veterinary, epidemiological surveillance, management and health policies associated with the various health services for an intense exchange of experiences, exchange of discoveries and scientific updates in thematic areas”, he adds.

The congress chair also explains that the commitment to offer various activities that will permeate the central theme of the congress are maintained, however the digital format innovates by allowing subscribers access to all contents of the scientific grid, Satellite Meetings and Scientific Papers, for a period 30 days after the event, making it possible to watch on demand (whenever and from wherever you want). Also according to him, through the event platform, which is quite complete, participants will be able to watch the activities of the scientific program, visit stands and even network on the exclusive social network of the congress.

Regarding the 1st Covid-19 forum, Dr. Vasconcelos guarantees that it should be the biggest stage for discussions on the post-pandemic theme. According to him, the Forum will feature discussions on covid-19, as well as to present the latest research results regarding the epidemiology of the disease in the context of new variants, vulnerabilities, pediatric and adult clinical management, post covid-19 syndrome and vaccines. “It will be a great opportunity to share successful experiences. In addition, the Forum will bring to the debate how we should prepare for the post-pandemic world”, he adds.
